James Baskerville was the eldest of the five sons of Sir James Baskerville and Elizabeth Breynton.[1][2][3] He was born by 1506.[1]

His brothers were John Baskerville , Sir Thomas Baskerville , Walter Baskerville and Humphrey Baskerville .[2] He married by Nov 1537 'Elizabeth'[1][2] or 'Katherine'[4][5][6], daughter of Walter Devereux, 3rd Lord Ferrers of Chartley .

In his will made on 18 Aug 1572 and proved on 10 Feb 1573/1574 he was recorded as “Sir James Baskervile of Erdesley in the countie of Hereford knight”.[9] His will was to be buried in the parish church of Erdesley.

His principal heir was his brother John Baskerville who was bequeathed his Manors of Erdesley and Irdisley, Staundon upon Wye, Kilkinton, Over Letton and Orcoppe, and the residue of his other manors in the counties of Radnor and Hereford, other than those bequeathed to his brother Walter Baskervile.
