Biography
John Baskerville Esq. of Chanstone, Vowchurch, Herefordshire
John Baskerville was the second of the five sons of Sir James Baskerville and Elizabeth Breynton. His brothers were James Baskerville , Sir Thomas Baskerville , Walter Baskerville and Humphrey Baskerville .[1][2][3]
John was noted in the will of his father, the will made on 04 Jan 35 Henry VIII [04 Jan 1543/1544] and proved on 09 Dec 1546.[4]

He married Elizabeth, daughter of Richard Hargest of Chanstone Court, Vowchurch. He had two sons and 1 daughter.[1][2][3]
In the Bodenham Pedigree in the Visitation of Herefordshire it was recorded that John Baskerville of Erdisley married Elizabeth, daughter of Roger Hergast and grandaughter of Richard Hergast.[5]

He is presumed to have been the John Baskerville of 'Chenton' recorded in the will of Thomas Baskerville of Pontrilas, Herefordshire, the will dated 19 Aug 1550 and proved 28 Aug 1551.[6]

In 1555 John Baskerville of 'Chenstone', Esq. was recorded in the will of Stephen ap Harry Esq. of Morehampton, Herefordshire.[7]

John's elder brother died in 1572 without a lawful heir, leaving John to inherit the family estate at Eardisley, Herefordshire.[8]

In the will of his elder brother Sir James Baskerville, the will made on 18 Aug 1572 and proved on 10 Feb 1573/1574 he was bequeathed the Manors of Erdesley and Irdisley, Staundon upon Wye, Kilkinton, Over Letton and Orcoppe, and the residue of the Testator's other manors in the counties of Radnor and Hereford, other than those bequeathed to his brother Walter Baskervile.[9]

"On his elder brother’s death he took up residence at Eardisley, and it was there that he died on 23 Sept. 1577; no will has been found, but his heir was his son Humphrey, then aged 44".[3]
