Note 1
Margaret Vaughan Hawkins brought centuries of Herefordshire nobility into the rising Hawkins naval legacy. A daughter of Charles Vaughan of Hergest Court and Elizabeth de Baskerville, she linked the Hawkins line to the de Baskervilles, Crofts, and Breyntons — some of the most storied names in the Welsh Marches. Married late in life to Sir Admiral John Hawkins, she served as bedchamber woman to Queen Elizabeth and cemented the family's social standing at court. Though no children came from the union, her pedigree and presence at the Queen's side gave the Hawkins name the noble shine it carried into the next century.
