Biography

Eustace Whitney was the son second son of Robert Whitney and Sibill Baskerville.[1]

He married Margaret, daughter of William Vaughan of Glasbury, Radnorshire.[1]

Eustace and Margaret's children were[1]

Robert Whitney, born 1592,[2][3] married Anne, dau. of Sir Thomas Lucy of Chericut[1] on February 1, 1607/8[4]

Thomas Whitney,[5] born 1595. He is "considered to have been the Captain Thomas Whitney who sailed to the coast of Guinea in the expedition under Sir W. Raleigh and to have died, unmarried, after his return in 1621."[2]

Eleanor Whitney, married Sir Henry Williams[1] of Gwernevet, eldest son and heir of Sir David Williams[6]

Joane Whitney, married John Wigmore[1]

In 1587, Eustace and his brother Robert were co-heirs of their brother James, who had died unmarried. His will, "made in May and proved in June, 1587," also named "uncles George and William Whitney"[7]

Eustace was sheriff of Radnorshire in 1595. His wife, Margaret, died in 1606 .

An inquisition post mortem for Eustace Whitney was held in 1608. Eustace was living in May 27, 1608, when King James "created said Robert Whitney Knight, in the life time of his father." Eustace died "at Whitney 11 July last and Robert Whitney Knt. is his son and heir and at the decease of his said father was aged 16 and 10 months."[4]
