He is presumed to have been a son of Sir Richard de Baskerville, Lord of Eardisley, and a daughter of Solers.[1][2][3][4][8][10]

His year of birth is unknown and is estimated as c 1280.

Some pedigrees have referred to him as 'William' de Baskerville.[1][2]

Marriage

He is said to have married Sibilla Corbet.[1][2][3][4][5][7][8][10]

She may have been a daughter or a sister of Peter Corbet of Caus.[1][2][3][4][7][10]

The marriage may have taken place around 26 Edward I .[4][5][8]

Two fines from 1323[11][12] recorded Richard as a son of Walter Baskerville .

According to Burke[13] and Norr[7] there was also a daughter Jane who married a Sir John or Jenkin Scudamore. However, A John Scudamore with wife Jane Baskerville are not listed in a more recent pedigree of Scudamore.[14]

Career

1305: Walter de Baskerville, knight [of Icomb, Salmonbury Hundred, Glos], Debtor.[15]

25 Jun 1309: Complaint by Myles Pychard that Walter de Baskerville assaulted him at Over Letton, co. Hereford, and that Peter le Taillur constable of the castle of Richard de Baskervyle of Ardesleye, and others, killed Richard de Shorham.[16]

06 Jan 1310/1311: Protection, for two years, for Walter de Baskerville, going beyond seas on pilgrimage.[17]

28 Apr 1311: Walter de Baskerville, going beyond seas on pilgrimage, nominated Edmund le Fiz Johan as his attorney for two years.[18]

Death

He is stated to have died c 12 Edward II [1318-1319].[1][2][4]

Moor[9] indicated that he had died by 11 Nov 1312. However, this appears to be an error based on the Inquisition Post Mortem of John de Acton in 1312. The Sibyl recorded in the Inquisition Post Mortem of John de Acton in 1312 was not the wife of this Walter Baskerville but the wife of an earlier Walter Baskerville.
