Biography

Richard de Baskerville of Eardisley

A Richard de Baskerville was the heir of his brother Walter Baskerville of Eardisley who died circa 1283.[1][2][3][4][5]

1282: "Richard de Baskerville is either married or about being so. The wife of Walter de Baskerville is not pregnant as he had heard".[6]

c. 1290: Petition of Richard de Baskervile , brother of Walter de Baskervile regarding the castle and manor of Eardisley.[7]

06 Feb 1289/1290: Order "to deliver to Richard de Baskervill, brother and heir of Walter de Baskervill, the castle of Erdesleye, which Roger de Clifford the elder, deceased, held of the said Walter for life only, as appears by inspection of the Chancery rolls".[8]

It has been suggested that the Richard Baskerville who inherited from his brother Walter after 1283 may have died around 1290 and was succeeded by a son Richard Baskerville who married Philippe [Solers].[9] A source to verify that a Richard de Baskerville died c 1290 has yet to be identified.

Coplestone-Crow in his more recent work did not include this Richard in his Baskerville pedigree. He placed the Richard who married Philippe as the brother of Walter.[10]
