Biography
1460 Birth and Parentage
Arthur Collins referrs to her as Beatrice Bromley , of Blore[1] and shows her as the daughter of Humphry Hill of Blore and Buntingdale.[1][2]
Birth Year Estimation
Brydges' later edition of Collins' Peerage states that Beatrice's husband William Bromley, Esq,, eldest son of Roger, was seated at Mitley and living 7 Henry VII . [2] Other than this, firm dates are scarce.
A birth year estimate of 1460 is being tested for consistency with other dates for Beatrice and her relatives. This is one year before her father's death in 1461.Day-1904 19:42, 27 November 2017 . For additional work on re-dating Beatrice Hill see Space:Dating_Beatrice_Hill
Hill Line of Descent
The Visitation of Shropshire shows the following line of descent to Beatrice Hill:
Hugo Hull de Hull in com Salop = Elianora filia et coher. Of Hugo de Wlonkeslow [3]
Will’us Hull married ___ Bunting of Buntingsdale [3]
Griffithus Hull de Hull in co Salop and of Wlonikeslowe = Margareta soror Griffithi Warren de Ightfield in co Salop.[3]
Humfridus Hull vulgo Hill de Buntingsale = Agnes fil. Et cohaer. Joh’s Bird consanguinis et haeres Davidi de Malpas[3]
Beatrix vs. Will’I Bromley[3]
MarrIage
Collins' Peerage reports that Beatrice Hill married William Bromley, Esq, the eldest Son of Roger, who was seated at Mitley.[1]
Some sources estimate a marriage year of 1493, but this seems late; it would make her 33 at her marriage. They also suggest children born 1495-1501. If these estimates are correct, Beatrice' birth year might well be later than 1460..
Death
Westcott reports that Beatrice died in 1495 in Metley, Staffordshire, England[4]. However, Westcott casts this date in doubt by identifying the birth dates of Beatrice's children from 1495 to 1501.
Issue
The earlier Collins notes that William Bromley and his wife Beatrice had two sons, George and Thomas but did not indicate whether they were the only children. [1] but Brydges' edited version states that Bromley had a son, George, and three daughters, Elizabeth, Joan and Dorothy. [2]
Elizabeth is named as daughter of William and Beatrice in the Visitation of Shropshire, 1623. Westcott gives the names of five children, but provides no source. [4]
Less reliable sources have given birth years of 1495 to 1501 to the children.
George Sir Knight Justice of Chester Bromley[4]. George Bromley named as son of William.[1] George Bromley was son and heir. [2]
Elizabeth Bromley born 1495. Visitation reports her as "Elizabetha fil Will’I Bromley[5] Elizabeth married "Rolandus Jennyns, son of Thomas Jennings [5] Westcott reports birth year of 1497 [4]. Brydges states that Elizabeth was the wife of Rowland Jenens. [2]
Joan Bromley, born 1499–[4]. Brydges says she married Richard Sandford. [2]
Dorothy Bromley, born 1501–[4]. Brydges says she married William Leighton. [2]
Thomas [4]. Thomas Bromley named as son of William by Collins. [1] Brydges' version of Collins' Peerage omits him. [2]
