Note 1
!Note: This entry is to remind us that it is most likely that the four Hotchkiss’s who were married in Cheswardine in the early 1560’s were probably siblings.
!Notes: I believe this family is related to Hotchkiss because of the similarities of their arms.

Family and education
The Hoskins family one generation back was from Monmouthshire, with Charles Hoskins, the father of Sir Thomas Hoskins, was originally “of Trefynwy, Monmouthshire”, but accumulating his wealth as a merchant tailor in London. He married to Anne Engler, of “Reigate, Surrey,” and acquired large estates in Surrey and Kent. He does not appear to be related, or at least closely related, to an earlier serjeant-at-law, John Hoskins , born in Herefordshire and appointed serjeant-at-law in 1623, or to John Hoskin’s grandson, Sir John Hoskins, who was a master in Chancery. Trefynwy, Monmouthshire is 60.7 miles from Hawkeswood.
