Margaret was born about 1445 in England, the daughter of Thomas Heynes but her mother is unknown.

Her husband was John Hotchkiss. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. Their five known children were Thomas (c1460-c1554), Richard (c1462-1544), William (c1475-c1545), Roger (c1480-c1573) and Thomasine (c1481-?).
