Moses was born on 13 AUG 1780 in Shenandoah Valley, Westmoreland County, Virginia, the son of Joseph Matheny and Nancy Bradley.

He died on 16 FEB 1841 in Ellwood City, Lawrence County, Pennsylvania, United States.

He had two marriages/partners. His first wife was Hannah Nye, who he married on 13 FEB 1803. The place has not been found. Their thirteen known children were Joseph (1808-1838), Nancy (1810-1872), Aaron (1811-1855), Rachel (1813-1891), Elizabeth (1815-1896), George (1817-1878), Mahala (1818-1838), Elijah Gad (1820-1904), Amanda (1823-1838), James Parker G (1825-1899), Hannah Lenora (1827-1860), Moses Erskine (1829-1864) and John Deemer (1832-1906).

His second wife was Rebecca. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. Their only known child was John (1800-1855).
