Certificate addressed to William fitzWilliam, Knt. Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster by William Wall, gent., Mayor of Preston in Amounderness, and William Walton, clerk at the receipt of recognizances of merchants and debtors in the same town, that on the 23rd March 7 Hen. VIII [1516] Henry Chernok, esquire, William Chorley sen., and Robert Chernok of Coppull came before Robert Coventre then Mayor of Preston and acknowledged a debt to Henry Faryngton esq, of £200 for merchandize bought from him payable to him at the F. of Pentecost following under penalty of distraint provided in the Statute of the King at Acton Burnel for merchants, for which sum they entered into bond in the presence of R. Coventre mayor, James Walton and Evan Wall, bailiffs, Richard Wall, Laurence Banastre, Ralph Gylibrond, Nicholas Banastre, William Parke, Aldermen of Preston and many other burgesses.
Dated, Preston, in the presence of James Walton, sen, Thomas Typpyng, Nicholas Banastre, Henry Hogekynson, and William Pye, Aldermen.
