Reference: E 40/7749

Description:

Deed poll by Margaret Strange of Maldon, co. Essex, widow, late the wife of John Strange, deceased, and daughter and heir of John Spylman of Hatfeld Peverell in the said county; reciting that Robert Bounde and Thomas Hexun being seised in fee of 3 acres meadow lying dispersed in Borham, in the said county, now called 'Boundesmede,' in a meadow there called 'Colworthmade,' enfeoffed John Sergeant of Hatfeld Peverell thereof, who being thus seised by his charter dated at Hatfeld, 2 July, 14 Henry VI, enfeoffed John Fynch of Ultyng, Thomas Fuller of Hatfeld, John Hawkyn, John Veryng, the said Thomas Hexun, John Spylman, John Penywhite, the elder, John Gilliam, the younger, John Pypere and Henry Chaundeler thereof; and reciting that the said John Spylman survived his co-feoffees and his right in the premises descended to the said Margaret as his daughter and heir; release by her of her right therein to John Rawlyn of Hatfeld Peverell, son and heir of John Rawlyn of the same being in his possession. Essex. 6 November, 19 Henry VII.

Date: 1503 Nov 6

Held by: The National Archives, Kew

Legal status: Public Record

Closure status: Open Document, Open Description

Note: John Spylman survived his co-feoffees and his right in the premises descended to the said Margaret, so John Hawkins is dead. The original charter was in 1435/6, so I would say John was born around 1400-15. Also, his family had some small Essex references.
