Note 1

!Stylename: Hill, Philippus, de Ightfield [~1410-?]

!Note: Philip Hill of Ightfield is believed to have been a younger son of Griffith Hill of Hull and Longslow [previously Wlonksslowe] [b. ~1375, d. 1433] and Margaret Warenne [b. ~1378]. When Margaret Warenne’s [b. ~1378] nephew John Warrene de Ightfield [~1375-4 Feb 1413] died, leaving no closer living relatives, Ightfield passed to his brother John, who died after a couple years and then to his sister Margaret. It doesn’t seem to have passed to this Margaret. However, both she and her youngest son Philippus are known as de Ighfield. Looking at this, it is actually likely that both actually lived in the family manor, and thus had the suffix title applied to their names. The Warrene family used the names Griffin and Margaret both to such an extent that it is no wonder genealogists get mixed up trying to trace them.

Biography

The Mainwaring of Ightfield pedigree in the Visitation of Shropshire noted Gruffith Warren as the son of Gruffith Warren and Mathilda, daughter of Lord Strange of Blackmere. He married Margaretta, daughter of Piers Corbett. They had a son John.[1]

In the Inquisition Post Mortem of John Wareyn in 1413, he was recorded as John, son and heir of Griffith Wareyn. "He died on 4 Feb. last. Griffin his son and heir is aged 13 years and more."[2] John had held the manor of Ightfield, Shropshire.

Note: This shows Philippus’ mother, Margaret Warren, and her parents and her brother Griffith Warren 1350. This source shows John of Ightfield, nephew of Margaret, died in 1413, such that Ightfield would go to her niece Margaret. However, Philippus and his mother were both most likely born and lived there with extended family.
