Note 1
!Note: Leonard Hotchkiss, named in the 1539 North Wiltshire Muster with full arms, horse, and weaponry, is identified as the eldest son of John Hotchkiss [b. ~1485, son of Sir Thomas] by his second wife, Jane. Leonard’s advanced provisioning suggests a higher social role, possibly managing the family's interests in Wiltshire alongside or in place of his aging father. He joins his older half brother John Hotchkiss Jr. and four known brothers in the same muster record series, reflecting a coordinated family contribution, aside from they had likely called all able bodied males. Randal was likely still in London as an apprentice brewer. The family was also providing bills [military polearms] for those mustered to the unit.
