Note 1

!Stylename: Hotchkiss, Sir Richard of Burseley [~1540 - ~1592]

!Notes: The Journey of Sir Richard Hotchkiss

In early 1592, Sir Richard Hotchkiss of Burseley made a fateful decision. Sensing trouble along the Welsh border, he brought his wife Margerie—and possibly some of their children—to Conwy, a coastal town in North Wales. It was a safe place, home to his cousin Hugh Hotchkiss / Hookes II and a well-established family network.

Once they were settled, Sir Richard set out again, heading southeast—likely across Montgomeryshire—toward his home in Lydbury North, Shropshire. But something went wrong. On 21 February 1592 Julian, Sir Richard was buried at Lydbury North. He died along the way, but his body was returned home. We don’t know what happened—only that he made sure his family was safe before he made that final journey. His daughter Jonett was born in Conwy and baptised 2 March 1592 Julian, likely named for Hugh’s wife.

Stoke-on-Trent is made up of 5 towns which were joined. On of these is Burslem.

The surrounding area has a Bursley Way, a Bursley Road, and a Bursley Ale House and a fast food place called the bursley burslem.

Apparently author Arnold Bennet [1867 - 1931] called Buslem Bersley. It may be that place name was a bit more than his imagination.

It is in Staffordshire, but near Cheshire.
