Nathaniel was born on 3 JAN 1721 in Swansea, Massachusetts, the son of John Finney and Ann Toogood.

He died on 24 SEP 1809 in Machias, Maine.

He had two marriages/partners. His first wife was Hannah Wood, who he married on 3 SEP 1740. The place has not been found. Their only known child was Caleb (c1742-?).

His second wife was Thankful Tupper, who he married on 13 JAN 1763 in Sandwich, Massachusetts. Their nine known children were Nathaniel (1765-?), Josiah (1767-?), Jireh (1770-1822), Samuel (1772-?), Melatiah (1774-?), Hannah (1774-?), Samuel (1776-?), Alvin (1778-?) and Elizabeth (1782-?).
