Their nine known children were Ellen [Helen] (1864-?), Elizabeth (1866-?), Richard (1869-1870), Harriet (1871-?), Annie (1873-1876), Richard (1875-1890), David (1877-?), John Mury (1880-1918) and James (1882-?).
His second wife was Elizabeth Crawford Smilley, who he married on 3 JAN 1897 in Allegeny County, Maryland. Their three known children were Mary (1887-1977), Andrew (1888-1967) and Alice (1891-?).
His third wife was Mary Murray, who he married on 3 JUL 1900. The place has not been found. Their five known children were Margaret (1899-1972), Hotchkiss (c1901-?), Kathrin (1902-1975), William Murray (1904-1966) and Robert Alexander (1909-1986).
