!P: Scranton - Helena R. Shepard, 81, Scranton, died Saturday, Oct. 8, 1994.

!P: She was born June 15, 1913, in Burlingame, the daughter of Thomas and Bessie Gillespie Hotchkiss. She was reared in Burlingame and was graduated from the Burlingame High School in 1931.

!P: Mrs. Shepard was a cook for the Scranton Schools, and at Brookside Manor in Overbrook for several years.

!P: She was a member of the Scranton Covenant Church and the Covenant Women.

!P: She was married to Ernest R. "Jim" Shepard on Jan. 27, 1934, in Topeka. He died Aug. 17, 1963.

!P: Survivors include a daughter, Linda Mellot, Altamonte Springs, Fla.; a son, Richard E. Shepard, Alta Loma, Calif.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

!P: Services were held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Scranton Covenant Church. Burial was at the Burlingame Cemetery, under the direction of the Carey Funeral Home in Burlingame.
