His wife was Elizabeth Russell. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. Their six known children were Barbara (1781-1857), John (c1788-?), Elizabeth (c1795-c1860), Jean (c1799-?), Janet (c1801-c1843) and Helen (c1803-?).

her notes: " as yet I have not found the marriage details of John and Elizabeth, but the GROS records show their children and their dates and places of birth as listed. This is a distinctly different family from Alex Laird and Elizabeth Russell, as shown by the GROS details of the children from both families also elizabeth's surname is sometime with only one "L" and another record shows Elisabeth with the "S" instead of the "Z""
