Caleb was born in 1819 in Wilmot [Granville], Nova Scotia, Canada, the son of Levi Phinney and Ruth Gates.
He died in 1898. The place is not known.
His wife was Ruth Craig, who he married in 1847. The place has not been found. Their five known children were John I. (1848-?), Mary Jane (1850-?), Guy Carlton (1852-1893), Matilda (1854-?) and Levi (c1856-?).
