He had two marriages/partners. His first wife was Margaret Adamson, who he married on 12 DEC 1819 in Barony, Lanark, Lanarkshire, Scotland. Their four known children were Elizabeth [Lizzie] (1821-1897), Walter (1823-1878), Margaret (1831-?) and George (1834-1908).

His second wife was Agnes Scroggie, who he married on 29 NOV 1818. The place has not been found. They had no known children.
