!Obituary: "The Rockford Morning Star] - Mrs. James Kennedy, wife of a prominent farmer residing south of Rockford on [Prairie Road] died suddenly February 6, 1909. She was driving with her son, James, late in the afternoon and complained of being ill. They were near the trust building and the son conducted his mother to the office of Dr. J.E. Tuite, where she expired shortly afterward. - On arriving in the physician's office Mrs. Kennedy complained of feeling very ill, and other patients were dismissed for the moment that she might be treated immediately. Dr. Tuite noted her condition, and summoned Father McEvoy, he arrived a few minutes before Mrs. Kennedy [Hannah] passed away. - A previous illness had left the aged woman in a weakened condition. In 1907 she suffered a severe attach of pneumonia, and was the victim of a runaway accident. In the latter Mrs. Kennedy suffered a severe shock and several broken bones, which caused her to remain in bed for several weeks. - In this feeble condition Hannah was unable to withstand the attach of yesterday and although the physicians did everything possible, death came ten minutes after she was sickened. James Kenndy [son of Hannah] was with his mother when she died. - To members of the family and a large circle of friends the news of her death came as a great shock. During the fifty years residing south of the city she had gained a large acquaintance of friends and many relatives in Rockford, Byron and the surrounding country. - Hannah was a member of St.. Mary's Catholic church and the family had come to Rockford often. The home is about six miles south of the city on what is know as the Prairie Road. Throughout the vicinity the family is well known and she was a loved member of the neighborhood. - To do good things, to be kind, to be generous and to be loved by all, might sum up the character of Mrs. Kennedy. She lived with plenty, but was ever generous, giving to many and wherever giving the largeness of heart was shown. She had fiends in numbers, but always room for more. A big family and a happy one, surrounded her. The community loved her and will grieve for her. - In the many years of farming the family had built a beautiful home and had come into possession of a large tract of land. They had been active in farm work and were home people. A few years ago Mr. Kennedy [James] retired, from notive labors and his sons kept up the place. The couple were residing at the farm home in a quite retirement. - It was a trading and pleasure trip to visit her sister yesterday that Mrs. Kennedy had planned. She had seen several friends in the business section before being taken sick. - Mrs. Kennedy [Hannah O'Connell] was born in Ireland, 68 years ago [1831], She came to America with her family when she was nine years old. She was married to James Kennedy fifty years ago and they had resided at the present home ever since that time.
