Note 1
!Alias: Anna.
!Note: They left Ireland the day they were married and after a seven week trip, landed in New York the day President Lincoln was buried in 1865. Abraham Lincoln was assasinated on 14 April 1865.
!Note: After reaching New York from County Cork Ireland, "the little bottle stopper" found herself in dire straights. Her husband was stricken with diptheria. They ran out of money. Facing starvation they found themselves stranded in New York. Anna found herself walking on the beach and in her desparation she shook her fist at the God and cried, "Ya got me here. Now get me out!" With that a briefcase washed up on the shore at her feet. Upon opening it, she found $200, and some papers. Not being able to read or write, she took the money and returned the briefcase and papers back to the ocean, with a mighty thanks be to God! The funds were sufficient to take care of the couple's wants until they reached their destination, Byron, Illinois.
!Note: On their way to Byron they stopped at the Kennedy Stage Coach Stop, between Byron and Rockford, on Kennedy Hill [which is still so known]. Little knowing that their future daughter Jane would marry a future son of the same Kennedys [i.e., Handsome Jack [John] Kennedy].
