He died on 13 MAR 1873 in Bothkennar, Stirlingshire, Scotland.

His wife was Agnes Hotchkiss, who he married on 20 SEP 1829 in Larbert, Stirlingshire, Scotland. Their seven known children were John (1830-<1838), Cornelius (1833-?), Agnes (1836-1903), John (1838-1910), Barbara (1840-<1841), David (1842-?) and Barbara (c1847-?).

Alexander Laing born 25th January 1810 at Kilsyth to Alexander Laing and Christian Shaw. 2. Alexander Laing born 18th June 1800 at Kilsyth, to John Laing and Elizabeth Baird. [Laird] It could be either of these two or not one of them. More research needs to be done. ***************************************** On 28th May 1805 Alexander Laing born to John Laing and Barbara Laird seem to fit the right naming pattern and right time frame. Family History Library. 0141953/FR204 ****************************************** In the 1851 census for Bothkennar: Alexander Laing and his wife Agnes were living in Carronshore with their children, they were both aged 46. Also there were Cornelius aged 18, John aged 13, David aged 9 and Barbara aged 4. There were numerous Laings, Lairds, McLuckie and McLuckys also. - On the death of Alexander Laing in 1873 [no. 26] Skinflats Bothkennar. The informant was his son in law Robert Morrison- Husband of Agnes Laing. [Have copy] He was 68. His parents were both deceased. Have copy - On the IGI there is a christening of a Barbara Laing on 15th November 1840 at Bothkennar, Sti. Parents were Alexander Laing and Agnes Hotchkis. There is a discrepency of age here. This Barbara would be 10 at the census of 1851. There are no other Barbara Laing's on the census. Presumably the first Barbara died and then they named the next girl as Barbara also. - There is a marriage for Barbara Laing 1st January 1866 at Bothkennar to a Henry Snaddon. [Sneddon] - In 1878 in NSW John Laing named his 5th child Barbara. - 1851 census of Bothkennar. next door to Alexander and Agnes Laing were: David Laing aged 68, George Laing aged 39, and Mary aged 37, and David aged 16. ???what relation. These are George Caldwell's ancestors. Janet White, Marys sister married George Laing, brother of my Alexander Laing. - Barbara Laing b. 1807 at Larbert the daughter of John Laing and Barbara Laird married Alexander McLuckie in 1828.
