In a ceremony Sunday, August 11, at 2:30 p.m. in the First Presbyterian church in Osage City, Karol Jeanette Johnson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eldon J. Johnson of Osage City became the bride of John Walter Sutherland, Burlingame, son of Dr. and Mrs. John B. Sutherland, of Prairie Village. The Rev. Paul Bengston officiated at the double ring ceremony before the altar decorated with ferns, three baskets of shades of pink gladioli and four sets of candelabra. White ribbon bows and ferns outlined the aisles of the bridal path.

Mrs. Leo Johnson, organist, played a prelude of nuptial music and the traditional wedding march and accompanied Mr. John Ames of Lawrence, soloist, who sang preseding the ceremony "Through the Years" and "Because", and as the couple knelt at the altar "The Lord's Prayer."

The taper lighters were Mrs. Eldon Johnson, Jr., and Mrs. Raymond Johnson wearing light pink crystallized taffeta sheath dresses with sashes coming to floating panels in the back. The bodice featured straight boat necklines and cap sleeves. Their headdresses were clips of matching taffeta with pink carnations and they wore wrist corsages of pink carnations and roses.

Mrs. Linda Sutherland of Prairie Village, sister of the groom, was the flower girl. She wore a dress of dark pink crystalized taffeta. David Johnson, Osage City, nephew of the bride, was ring bearer.

The bride given in marriage by her father, wore a gown fashioned of bouquet taffeta into a princess line sheath with a softly draped neckline, shirred cap sleeves and appliques of lace and seed pearls down the front. The bouffant encircling overskirt swept into a chapel train. Her elbow length mitts were of matching taffeta with appliques of lace and pearls. Her fingertip length veil was held by a cap of chantilly lace and pearls. She carried a bouquet of yellow Joanna Hill roses. The bride designed and made her dress.

The brides attendants were Miss Leanna Ray Smith, Osage City, maid of honor, and Miss Erma Tucker, Topeka, and Mrs. August Deacock, Osage City, bridesmaids. The maid of honor in dark pink and the bridesmaids in medium pink wore sheath dresses of crystallized taffeta with sashes coming to floating panels in the back, straight boat necklines, and cap sleeves. Their headdresses were clips of matching taffeta with pink carnations. They carried bouquets of shades of pink gladioli and carnations.

Mr. Sutherland chose Mr. Ray Dunn of Burlingame as his best man, and the groomsmen were Mr. Gregg Fast and Mr. Monte Ramskill, both of Burlingame. Ushers were Mr. Eldon Johnson, Jr., and Mr. Raymond Johnson, brothers of the bride, Osage City, and Mr. Max Sutherland, brother of the groom. All wore white dinner jackets.

The mother of the bride wore a navy blue dress with pink accessories, and the groom's mother wore a light blue dress with navy accessories. Both wore corsages of pink roses.

A reception was held in the church basement immediately following the ceremony. The bridal table and the guest book table were covered with matching beautiful 80-year-old tablecloths of linen with lace insets. A five tiered wedding cake centered the brides table which was also decorated with pink roses and candelabra.

Mrs. Kirby Lee of Osage City, cut the cake, and Miss Karen Smith of Burlingame poured the coffee. The punch was served by Miss Barbara Bowin of Osage City. Miss Sandra Hammond of Osage City was in charge of the guest book. In charge of the gifts were Miss Bonnie Romine and Miss Nancy Whalen, both of Osage City. All wore corsages of pink and white carnations.

For traveling the bride chose a tan and black dress with a black hat and black patent accessories.

Mrs. Sutherland is a graduate of the Osage City high school with the class of '57. Mr. Sutherland is a graduate of Burlingame high school with the class of '56 and is presently a pre-medical student at the University of Kansas in Lawrence.

After a wedding trip to the Ozarks, the couple is at home in Lawrence.

All six living living grandparents of the bride and groom were present at the ceremony. They are Mrs. Wm. Masters, Sr., Burlingame, Mr. and Mrs. Vic Johnson, Osage City, Mr. and Mrs. Walt Turvey, and Mr. Earl Sutherland of Burlingame.--
