!P: Mike Hendrickson, 23, Osage City, was killed Sunday, January 11, 1987, when he fell from the sled he was riding and slid into a tree in a farm field northeast of Osage City.

!P: Mr. Hendrickson was an equipment operator for Patzel-Heide Construction Company, Inc., of Lawrence.

!P: He was born January 25, 1963, in Emporia. He spent most of his life in the Osage City community and was graduated from Osage City High School in 1981.

!P: He was married to Susan Hess September 17, 1983, in Burlingame. They were divorced.

!P: Survivors include his father Dale Hendrickson, Osage City; his mother and stepfather, Jim and Carolyn Peterson, Osage City; a sister Michelle Mayfield, Osage City; a stepsister, Mrs. Jamie Wages, Osage City; two stepbrothers, Sam Peterson, Osage City, and Ken Peterson, Topeka; and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Hub Hendrickson, Osage City, and Mrs. Lou Dell McKinley, Burlingame.

!P: A rural Osage City man was killed Sunday as the result of a sledding accident that occurred at a farm northeast of Osage City. Michael D. Hendrickson, 23, died after he fell off a makeshift sled being pulled by a four-wheel drive vehicle and slammed into a tree.

!P: According to the Osage County Sheriff Department, Hendrickson was being pulled on an old car hood in a farm field when the accident occurred. Investigators said the vehicle pulling the makeshift sled made a turn and Hendrickson fell off.

!P: The accident occurred about 4:30 p.m. stated Osage County Undersheriff Tony Hazen. The driver of the vehicle was the man's father, Dale.

!P: The death has been ruled as accidental and is still under investigation, said Hazen.

!P: The victom was taken by ambulance to an Osage City doctor where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The cause of death was a severed head injury, Hazen said....
