His wife is not known. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. Their two known children were Richard (c1400-1461) and Ralph (c1402-<1450).

!Note: Robert, John, and Hugh’s father, William Hotchkiss of Hawkeswood [~1347 - ] owned property in Mawdesley, Croston, Lancashire. Date prior to 20 Dec 1372 and must have done other business nearby such that his sons were introduced to the place. He may have gone to York to pickup the name Hodgkinson, and later brought his sons there as well.

Note: Location Crowlusmer' Shropshire — modern Cruckmeole. Date 1410. Early appearance of the Hodgkinson form in Shropshire. The use of the -son ending here is rare and not repeated locally for a long time, suggesting Hugh had northern association rather than the name developing in Shropshire.
