In the name of God Amen the yere of our lord god a thousand fyve hundreth xxxviij⁽ᵗʰ⁾ the xxvi day of August I Margaret Hopkynson of Ashover, whole of mynd and perfyte of memory make my testament and last wyll in this maner folowyng.

I bequeth my soull to god almyghty to our blessed lady and to all the holy company of heven and my body to be buryed in the church yard of Allhalowes in Ashover.

Also I bequeth to the high altar for my tithes forgotten vj⁽ˢ⁾ viij⁽ᵈ⁾

Notes: 1. I read this as Martin’s herd wondered onto the kings land, was grazing, and had to be chased off.

2. From Ashover, Derbyshire to Bradley, Lancashire is 56.64 miles. Over an entire lifetime, that’s probably reasonable. Besides it was most likely just land he owned, rather than his residence at 68.
