Biography
Jane/Johanna Monington was a daughter of Richard Monngton esq. of West Hide, and Joan or otherwise Anne/Anna, probably daughter of William Baskerville of Wootton/Wotton, Herefordshire.[1][2][3]
According to the IPM of William Baskerville in 1540[1] one of his heirs was a daughter 'Anne' who had married a Monington, and they had a daughter Johanna aged about 6.[1] Anne had a brother James and sisters Eleanor and Johana.
Another source placed Anne as a daughter of James Baskerville rather than as his sister.[4] However, c 1540, Jane Manyngton, a granddaughter of William Baskervile, was concerned in a case regarding the manor of Wootton.[5] It seems that Jane was the heir as her mother Anne had died before 1540.
Jane/Johanna Monington married Walter Baskerville, the illegitimate son of Thomas Baskerville of Pontrilas, Herefordshire.[2][3][4][6]
Children:
James Baskerville[2][6][7]
Thomas Baskerville[6][7]
Walter Baskerville[6][7]
William Baskerville[6][7]
John Baskerville[6][7]
Katherine Baskerville [7]
Jane Baskerville, wife of Walter Baskerville esq. of Pontrilas was noted in the will of Sir James Baskerville of Eardisley, Herefordshire, the will made on 18 Aug 1572 and proved on 10 Feb 1573/1574.[8]
She was recorded in the will of her husband, the will dated 21 Sep 1587 and proved 17 Nov 1587.[7]:
"Item my last will and minde is that Jane my wyfe and the saide james my sonne and Sibill his wife and the survivor and survivors of them three within one yeare next after my decease shall by sufficient Lease in writing Indented or by other sufficient Lawfull conveyannce shall and doe convey and assure to Thomas Baskervile my sonne all that the Scite of the Mannor of Watton in the parishe of Wellington in the saide County …."
