5. The Howard line in Sandra VanConant's tree was good for the earlier part, but as it got back to
Colonial times in the South, it began to not make sence to me, so I found a project on WikiTree which
used references from wills to finish out the older generations.

Joseph Parsons married Mary Bliss in England, and the made it to Ne England just in time for Mary
to be accused of witchcraft during the Salem witch trials, where she was acquitted. It seems she
had some very nasty neighbors.
4 Sandra VanConant's tree had very good sources, especially for the New England part, so I was
able to check most of these out pretty easily. The English part left a little to be desired, but
according to the Parsons family association Margaret's background was further researched by a paid
genealogist and is available in The New England Historical & Genealogical Society (NEHGS) in Boston,
MA, under Gerald J. Parsons name and is available to researchers. It appears to be in books form
and not online, so I would very much appreciate it if someone in the area could check this out. I
would like to know what proof there is of this part of the line.

Now you probably know part of where I'm going,
since we now know that Hoskins is Hotchkiss outside of Shropshire in Enland at this time. This
website also identified her father as Robert Hoskins. Several others said her grandfather was
William Hoskins, and findagrave even said her great-grandfather was Henry Hoskins. It turns out
That there was only one place that this Henry Hotchkiss / Hoskins will fit in the tree, and since
we've linked all the records at this point, that place is my 15G grandfather Sir Thomas
Hotchkiss / Hoskins, the owner of the Hotchkiss crest that we all know so well. This means that
Sir Thomas is now my 15G grandfather twice over through another of his sons. Now I know we have
131,072 15G grandparents, but I still find this amazing.
3. Margaret's son, Cornet (that's a cavalry officer) Joseph Parsons moved to Massachusetts and
Connecticut, where he was apparently neighbors with our Samuel descendants.

This is a little faster website update than normal, but I think it has some interesting stuff.
1. I continued updating Hoskins information.
2. A couple years ago I got a gift of Ancestry DNA. If you have a tree and give permission and
your DNA matches do as well, then it will show you suggestions from where your match's trees have
data you are missing. In this case, it told me, through Ancestry.com ThruLines, referencing
numerous trees, that I was missing a whole lot from the ancestry of my
2great grandmother Marie Francis Howard, who was the paternal grandmother of my grandmother Alice
Louise Hotchkiss nee Woolery. This lead me to an ancestry tee by Sandra VanConant, which followed
both her and her husbands lines way farther than I had gone. Now this doesn't look like my
Hothckiss line, but I was in for a surprise. When I got back to 1580, I found an 11G grandmother
Margaret Hoskins in Beaminster, Dorset, England.

My mother was Margaret Kathleen Merrett née Hotchkis of the one 'S' side, her father was Sgt James Hilton Hotchkis and her mother Gladys Kathleen Hotchkis née Wilson.
So glad I found your website I know so much about Gladys side of family but so little about James.

Admin reply: I’m going to take a wild guess that you are this lady: (this website)/gen/INDIs/II18241.html. I’d love to know more about Gladys.

Of course you do know that most likely the original Hotchkiss name back in Norman times, most likely had an old letter that is sometimes called a long S or else a double S. The reason is really simple. The Normans spoke French, yet they were Scandanavian, and they were in a place where the people they had conquered were mostly Anglo Saxon. For the Scandinavian Normans, the S on the end of the name usually meant “son of”. However, in French, you don’t pronouns the last consonant in a word. So what do you do? Add another letter, or maybe use the long S symbol. Anyway, the actual people with the name most likely didn’t even know this unless they could write. Prior to 1900 or so, very few people could write, and the name was usually written by a priest or other scribe. Of course you're my 5th cousin twice removed, with common ancestor Cornelius (abt 1739 to Apr 1789), so it should be the same name.
