Walter was born on 18 DEC 1786 in Dalgety, the son of Thomas Muir and Montgomery Jaap.

He died in 1857 in Cedar City, Lyon, Utah.

His wife was Ellen Beveridge. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. Their eight known children were Janet (1813-1814), Montgomery (1816-1899), Thomas (1818-1860), Betty (1821-?), George (1823-1848), Grace (1825-1854), David (1829-1891) and Mary Ann (1831-1921).

Note 1

He was a very early Mormon convert, joining the church on 31 December 1846. Emigrated on board the "Sailor Prince" from Liverpool along with 311 other Mormon emigrants. He emigrated with his wife, his 7 children, his son-in-law, daughter-in-law, and 4 grandchildren.
