Walter was born on 30 MAR 1823 in Parkhead, the son of George Jaap and Margaret Adamson.

He died on 27 JUL 1878 in Morris Run, Tioga County, Pennsylvania.

His wife was Agnes Grant, who he married on 15 NOV 1845 in Coatbridge. Their twelve known children were Jaap (c1846-?), Robert (1848-1903), Jaap (c1850-?), Susan (1853-1865), Walter (1855->1916), John (1858-1894), Richard (1860-1943), Thomas (1863-1910), George (1865-1906), Andrew (1867-1927), William Grant (1872-1952) and Benjamin (1875-1875).
