ROBERT E. MASTERS -- Robert E. "Swede" Masters, 72, Burlingame, died Friday, May 18, 1990, at a Topeka hospital. He was born April 9, 1918 on a farm S. W. of Burlingame, the son of William and Jennie Burns Masters. He was reared in Burlingame and graduated from Burlingame High School. Mr. Masters was the Burlingame city marchall for many years and was Osage County Sheriff, retiring after 11 years service. Mr. Masters was an avid collector of Indian artifacts and gave many talks to schools and organizations after he retired. He was married July 12, 1943 to Shirley Welch at Holton. She survives. He was preceded in death by a sister, Irene Ryan and a grandson Kelly Masters. Other survivors include four sons, Bob Masters, Salina, Glen Masters and Pat Masters, both of Burlingame, and Tony Masters, Emporia; three brothers, Gilbert Masters, William Masters and Albert Masters, all of Burlingame; three sisters, Pearl Johnson and Emma Dorr, both of Osage City, and Edna Renyer, Silver Lake; and six grandchildren.
