Janet was born about 1750 in Airth, Stirlingshire, Scotland, the daughter of unknown parents.

She had four marriages/partners. Her first husband is not known, but they were married in BEF 1773. The place has not been found. Their only known child was UNKNOWN (<1773-?).

Her second husband was Emanuel Hotchkiss. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. Their only known child was Manual (c1774-?).

Her third husband was James Cowan, who she married in 1779. The place has not been found. Their only known child was Cowan (c1780-?).

Her fourth husband was William Beverige, who she married in ABT 1780. The place has not been found. Their only known child was Beverige (1781-?).
