He was an Army veteran of World War II; having served in the Infantry in France, Italy and North Africa. - He was born December 21, 1911, in Burlingame, the sone of Walter and Martha Washington Burket. He was graduated from Burlingame High School and spent most of his life in the Burlingame community. - Mr. Burkett was a member of the Gene and Elroy Schenck Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7584 in Burlingame. - He was married to Letha Miller February 24, 1947, in Kansas City, Missouri. She survives. A stepson Wally York, died in 1968. - Other survivors include a daughter, Cheryl Jefferson, Warrensburg, Missouri, a son, Eddie L. Burkett, Scranton; a stepson, William York, Burlingam, a sister, Arlene Ramskill, Attica, Ohio; a brother, Richard Burkett, Topeka; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. - Graveside services were at 2 p.m. Monday in Burlingame Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Gene and Elroy Schenck VFW Post No. 7584 in Burlingame. Carey Funeral Home, Burlingame, was in charge of arrangements.
