William Preston was the son of son of Adam Preston and Isabel Preston, of Giggleswick, Yorkshire . He married Elizabeth Sale, 11 Oct 1613, in Chesham, Buckinghamshire, England. William, his second wife, Mary, and his children migrated to New England in 1635 during the Puritan Great Migration on the ship, "Truelove."

First settled in Dorchester; moved to New Haven in 1640. Died between 0 Jul 1647 & 30 Aug 1647 .

Married in Cheshan, Buckinghamshire, 11 Oct 1613, Elizabeth Sale, baptized at Chesham on 8 Jun 1590, daughter of Edward Sale of Chesham. She was buried at Chesham on 22 Feb 1633/4 .
