He died in 1871 in Sangamon County, Illinois.

His wife was Elizabeth A Cassidy. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. Their seven known children were William D (c1849-?), Nancy Lucretia (1852-1932), Martha (c1855-?), Susan (c1858-?), John M (c1860-?), Eliza (c1863-?) and Lucinda (c1868-?).
