He died in 1799 in Loudoun County, Virginia.

His wife was Elizabeth Gaines, who he married on 12 DEC 1751 in Overwharton Parish, Stafford, Virginia. Their nine known children were Mary (1753-?), Nathan (1754-1810), John Luke (1754-1839), James Daniel (1756-1832), Daniel (c1757-1824), Jesse (1761-1860), Frederick (1763-1847), Elias (1766-1862) and Michael (1767-?).
