He died in 1855 in Newburgh, New York.
His wife was Susan Benedict. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. Their four known children were Joel Benedict (c1806-?), James Hunter (c1808-?), Margaret Hunter (c1810-?) and Louis (c1812-?).
