!Note: K. Graber's book gives his birthdate as 19 Dec 1819. However, the Spiesen Parish Records show 9 Dec 1819. The "History of Iowa County, Wisconsin" written in 1881 states that he had 10 children. However, only 7 are accounted for in census records.
!P: John grew up in Spiesen and served in the Prussian army. He came to the U.S. in 1845 or before, and first settled in Pennsylvania where he married and had three children. They moved on to La Fayette County, Wisconsin in 1852. In Iowa County, Wisconsin he farmed, dealt in stock, and was very successful. He owned 400 acres and was a member of the Town Board for 6 years.
