His wife was Helen Rankine, who he married on 20 FEB 1790 in Larbert, Stirlingshire, Scotland. Their five known children were James (c1791-?), John (c1796-?), Thomas [Alexander] (c1798-?), Helen (c1800-?) and Alexander (c1805-?).
