Hugh was born in 1823 in Lismore, Scotland, the son of Duncan Buchanan and Mary Carmichael.
He died on 14 APR 1915 in Baligarve, Scotland.
His wife was Flora Carmichael. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. Their ten known children were Neil (1857-1941), John (c1860-?), Mary (c1862-?), Jane (c1864-?), Duncan (c1867-?), Christina (c1869-?), Hugh (c1872-?), Dugald (c1874-?), Archibald (c1878-?) and Donald (c1880-?).
