Walter was born on 24 AUG 1828 in Barony, Lanark, the son of Robert Jaap and Margaret Naismith.

He died on 24 AUG 1862 in Kilbirnie.

His wife was Mary Murray, who he married on 31 DEC 1853 in Dalry. Their four known children were Robert (1855-1926), Elizabeth (1857-?), Margaret Naismith (1858-1927) and James (1861-1915).
