[question from Rex] Why do you think it is the Jean Sharp christened 18 May 1797 in Dollar? -
[answer from Elizabeth] Well two reasons - my great aunt saying that there was a Clackmannan connection, and also the age and names in the family matched. There was no Jane Sharp born to an Andrew and Euphemia except the two you pointed out which are too far away, I think. Dumfries is down south below Ayrshire and Monzevaird is near Dundee. I know the naming pattern for James and Jane Rae's children don't match but then they don't have any children named after themselves either. The third spot is usually for the mother and father but the third girl is Margaret and the third boy is Joseph Sharp. The other option is that her mother was Helen. If both mothers were Helen then that would explain that name and no other. If only that death certificate would show....
!Note: certain breaks in the naming pattern were common, even when it was bing followed, for instance for living but older grandparents, or for step-parents who actually raised the child.
