Dated at Stratford in the hall of the Gild on the feast of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 21 Edward IV

Seal lost

Date: 25 March, 1481

Held by: Shakespeare Birthplace Trust, not available at The National Archives

Language: Latin

Physical condition: 12½ by 9 inches.

Note: At this point John Hogekyns [Hawkins] is 44 and it is about time for him to appear on his own. He is also the right age to be building a new mansion with his wife. His father is really too old for that role. He has appeared under the name of John Hawkesford, proctor in earlier records, and it was probably necessary to use that name for the role in the document.

Language: Latin

Physical condition: 11 by 42½ inches.

Note: Date maybe 1485? Because of the mutilated condition of the document, it cannot be used to infer anything about family members who are missing from the document, but only those present, as the entire right side of the roll is missing. For instance, John may have been at the end of the previous line with Felicia at the beginning of the next, with an enty like “John and Felicia Hoggekyns”.
