Note: The presence of this chaplain in the household of John Picton may represent the earliest known contact between the family and local gentry along the Bristol Channel. Later marriages of two Hotchkiss daughters into the Williams family in this same coastal sphere suggest the relationship may have developed from this earlier connection.

Note: This grant to Robert, and to a knight and chief justice, seems to involve Robert’s 3rd cousin twice removed, Sir William Hawkins / Hankeford, King’s Sergeant & Justice of the King’s Bench, who lived in Devonshire, just across Bristol Channel. This very much sounds like internal family networking at work. Robert shows up doing the kind of role educated family men often filled in these networks — close to clergy, close to paperwork, close to the people with power.

Notes: Location: Llawhaden, Pembroke, Wales. Distance from Haverford, Pembroke [above] 7.31 miles. Dates: 18 Henry VI 1439/40 and 36 Henry VI 1457/58. Likely the inspeximus is reciting earlier material from one bishop’s tenure and confirming it in another’s. Thus our Robert Hogekyn ~1408 - <1453 is not likely to be present in the 1457/8 date, but was most likely involved in the 1439/40 years, while he was alive.
