Note: So, what actually happened?

1. Henry sues someone for trespass. Classic early tangle: someone damaged his goods, land, or rights.

2. The sheriff arrests the defendant — or someone connected.

3. The sheriff is ordered to bring the prisoner + paperwork to court. [corpus cum causa]**

4. The sheriff botches it: Doesn’t show up. Or doesn’t produce the “cause.” Or holds the person unlawfully. Or interferes with Henry’s process.

5. Rabas files a Chancery complaint against the sheriff Because Henry’s original action is now being obstructed.

Rabas is almost certainly: Henry’s surety, or Henry’s legal proxy, or Henry’s bond-holder, or the clerk holding the writ for Henry, or the one financially injured by the sheriff’s failure.
