12 Nov 1393, Westminster
Commission to Peter de Courtenay, Walter Clopton, John Wadham, Richard Sydenham, Theobald Wykham, sheriff of Somerset, John Prustecote and John Coplestorne, citing the revocation, on account of manifest error therein, of the judgment in a suit before the justices of the Bench in the late reign between Peter le Veel, plaintiff, and Thomas de Stapeldon, tenant, in respect of the manor of Norton by Taunton,excepting two messuages, 20 acres of land and 3 roods of meadow therein, which manor Richard de Stapeldon, knight, gave to the said Thomas, his brother, for life, by the name of 'Sir Thomas de Stapeldon,' canon in the cathedral church of Exeter, now deceased,with remainder in fee tail to Richard, son of the said Richard de Stapeldon, the decree that the said manor, except as excepted, should be delivered to the said Richard, son of Richard, by virtue of which he had possession for a long time, until John le Veel, son and heir of the aforenamed Peter, Thomas Stamvylle, Richard Clyvedon and Nicholas Bubbe, assembling other evildoers in large numbers came in armed array, entered the manor by force, expelled his men and servants, erected barriers before the doors and put a heap of stones to resist him and all others on the king's side, expressly saying that they would hold it against all comers, and made Henry Pavely their captain for the purpose. The commissioners are to remove the barriers, arrest all persons holding the manor together with their arms, imprison them until further order, make proclamation against any going armed or leadingan armed power or commiting any breach of the peace, and to enquire and certify touching all the circumstances.

Pardon to Margaret, late the wife of Richard de Stapeldon, son and heir of Richard de Stapeldon, knight, and administratrix of the goods of the said Richard, son of Richard, who died intestate, of her waiver for not appearing in the Common Bench to pay Master John Northwode, canon of the church of St. Cross, Criditon, 20 marks recovered against her in that court and 20s. damages,she having surrendered to the Flete prison and he having acknowledged that he has been paid both debt and damages, as is certified byWilliam Thirnyng, chief justice of the Common Bench.
