from 1626-1643 she is recorded many times per year and then in 69, 73, and 76.

Devon, Plymouth & West Devon Parish Chest Records 1556-1950

I looked at some random entries

Agnes Edgcrombe ——— she is always at or near the end of the list and it says ——0—bjd. several entries in 1635

Agnes Edgcrombe ———1 6 Section the 3 month Maye the 27

Agnes Edgcrombe Signed the half month 1640

Parish Chest Appearances

The consistent, long-term presence of Agnes Edgcrombe in the Plymouth Parish Chest records across 17+ years—and then again decades later—is no coincidence. A few interpretations:

“Signed the half month” and the repeated listings suggest she was likely:

Involved in parish administration

Possibly receiving alms or managing distribution

Or most intriguingly—signing off on accounts, suggesting a literacy level and some authority

"——0—bjd" looks like it could be a notation for “no payment” or “nothing by judgment/distribution.” Being “at or near the end of the list” fits:

Either an overseer’s signature validating entries

Or a notation for someone not receiving aid, perhaps indicating she was a donor, not a recipient

The gap and reappearance raises eyebrows:

These later dates could reflect either a younger Agnes or even ledger updates or posthumous references
