Walter was born about 1348 in Wiltshire, England, the son of Thomas Hawkins but his mother is unknown.

He died after 1416 in Bristol, Gloucester, England.

His wife is not known. They were married, but the date and place have not been found. Their two known children were William (c1371-?) and John (c1379-c1442).
